“If you are too busy to sing, you are too busy!”
Welcome to the Choral Society of Pensacola (CSOP). If you like to sing and would enjoy being part of a professional chorale, then this is an organization that will make you feel comfortable, among a great group of like-minded folks who, like you, love to sing.
We especially enjoy the challenge of presenting works by noted composers, frequently old masters but also at one concert a year, more recent compositions by newer or popular composers. And of course, we take great joy in launching the Pensacola area Christmas season each year with “Messiah” by George Frederich Handel. Soloists at our three annual concerts, plus “Messiah” come to us with national reputations, and most of our concert offerings are accompanied by members of the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra.
Our singers are expected to attend Monday evening rehearsals (from late August through early May with a month hiatus during the holiday season) plus additional rehearsals during concert week, sing at all concerts usually on a Saturday evening at various local venues, observe attendance requirements and the policies and by-laws of the organization. In addition, formal attire (tuxedos for men; specific gowns for women available through CSOP) is required.
Membership in CSOP is by audition, held at the beginning of each semester in mid-August and in January, or at other times by appointment with Xiaolun Chen, Artistic Director. Singers should be able to read and comprehend music and sight read a simple melody. The audition, held in Room 801 in the Ashmore Fine Arts Center at Pensacola Junior College, also helps determine a proper vocal part for the singer. The next scheduled audition day will be January 9, 2010 from 10am until noon.
We urge you to request complete information including audition details, costs for singers, and our absentee policy by contacting Louise Hawley, Chorus Chair, at 251-961-2858 or
